Wrestling photos: West Jeff wins

Keith Carius from Westland tries to escape the hold of West Jefferson’s Jake Cochran, who went on to win the 171-pound match 6-4. West  Jefferson hosted a wrestling invitational Dec. 19-20. Participating schools included Brookhaven, River Valley, Grandview, Franklin Heights, Whitehall, Paint Valley, Westland and West Jefferson. West Jefferson and Westland entered into the championship  round, each with 6-0 records in the dual meet format. The match-up pitted West Jefferson Coach Mike Branham against his older brother, Roger Branham, Westland’s head coach. West Jefferson won the championship match, 47-28.
Tyler Hughes from West Jefferson and John Powell from Westland fight for the early position in their match in the 112-pound class. Hughes won the match with a pin in the second period.
 
Westland’s Quintin Rigney has West Jefferson’s Ronnie Mansfield in a  headlock in the first period. Mansfield got out of the headlock and went on to pin Rigney in the second period of the 130-pound match-up.
