Wrestlers from all county schools compete in West Jefferson

West Jefferson High School hosted its annual wrestling invitational Dec. 28-29. Eighteen teams competed, including teams from all four Madison County high schools.

London finished fourth with 187 points, West Jefferson was sixth with 165.5 points, Jonathan Alder was 14th with 65.5 points, and Madison-Plains was 15th with 54.5 points. Teays Valley won with 191 points.

Top individual finishers from local schools were:

– Antwaun Burns, London, first at 145 pounds;

– Josh Colvin, London, first at 152 pounds;

– Darian Huff, London, first at 160 pounds;

– Bryce Keckley, West Jefferson, second at 160 pounds;

– Hunter Braithwaite, West Jefferson, first at 220 pounds;

– Thad Huff, London, second at 220 pounds;

– Chet Lohr, West Jefferson, first at 285 pounds;

– Joey Buckland, West Jefferson, third at 126 pounds;

– Dominic Davis, London, third at 132 pounds;

– Braiden Leisure, Jonathan Alder, fourth at 138 pounds;

– Anthony Speakman, West Jefferson, fourth at 145 pounds;

– Chase Kelley, Madison-Plains, third at 170 pounds;

– Jack Minner, London, fourth at 195 pounds; and

– Antonio Burns, London, fourth at 220 pounds.

Upcoming wrestling action includes: Jonathan Alder at Fairbanks, 5:30 p.m. Jan. 9; the Ron Thomas Sr. Invitational at Jonathan Alder, 10 a.m. Jan. 19; London at the Licking Heights Invitational, 5:30 p.m. Jan. 11 and 10 a.m. Jan. 12; the Golden Eagle Dual Tournament at Madison-Plains, 9 a.m. Jan. 12; Madison-Plains at the Drumm Invitational at Heath, 10 a.m., Jan. 19; West Jefferson at Academy, 5 p.m. Jan. 24; and West Jefferson at Celina, 10 a.m. Jan. 26.

Josh Colvin of London has Scott Estes of Hillsboro on his back. Colvin won the match with a technical fall and finished the tournament in first place in the 152-pound class.
Hunter Braithwaite of West Jefferson works hard against Michael Plunkett of London in the 220-pound match. Braithwaite won the match with a fall at 1:04 and went on to place first overall in the class.
Kyle Heiser of West Jefferson fights to gain control over Owen Crabtree of Jonathan Alder in the 132-pound class. Heiser won with a fall at 1:09.
Bryce Keckley of West Jefferson and John Martin of Madison-Plains face off in the 160-pound class. Keckley won the match with a fall at 3:33 and went on to place second overall in his class.
