Woman found dead along State Route 323

At 7:38 a.m. March 16, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a passerby about a body lying along the roadway in a rural area of southern Madison County. The location was in the 2800 block of State Route 323 SE in Range Township, approximately eight miles west of Mount Sterling.

Deputies arrived, as well as medics from the Sterling Joint Ambulance District. The victim, a white female, was found to be deceased. Indentification was made of Kelsey Jean Maynard, 26, who resided with her parents less than a half-mile from where she was discovered.

The victim was fully clothed and no signs of trauma or struggle were detected. She was last seen at home around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. Her parents related that it is not unusual that she walks in the area.

The victim was examined by Madison County Coroner Dr. James Kaehr and transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy. Preliminary examination does not reveal any evidence of foul play, struggle, or cause of death. Investigators are awaiting results of additional testing, including toxicology.

Investigators continue to trace Maynard’s activity since she was last seen on Wednesday evening.
