West Jefferson High School’s sophomore class has organized a “winter crop” designed to not only preserve memories but also lay the foundation for creating new ones.

The scrapbooking event will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Jan. 12 in the high school’s auditeria. The cost is $20 per person or $10 per student. Proceeds go to next year’s after-prom, an event organized by parents.

“We’ve had up to 35 people at crops we’ve done in the past, and we can hold way more than that. There is plenty of room in the auditeria,” said Lori Denes, a kindergarten teacher at Norwood Elementary and mother of sophomore Taylor Denes.

The goal is to raise about $500 at the crop, said Denes, event organizer. Overall, the sophomores hope to raise $3,000 for after-prom, which in the past has included activities such as bowling and a trip to SportsOhio in Dublin. Other fundraisers include the sale of Krispy Kreme doughnuts at high school sporting events.

The Jan. 12 crop will feature door prizes, snacks and drinks, and music. Participants will have use of a Sizzix die-cut machine and dies. Additionally, West Jefferson-themed scrapbooking items will be available for purchase. A silent auction will include scrapbooking items and merchandise donated by local businesses.

Participants may come and go as they please during the 12-hour event; their work areas will remain intact the entire time. Also, croppers may bring in their own food.

Anyone who pre-registers before the day of the event will be entered into a drawing for a Stampin-Up stamp set. Registration also will be accepted at the door. To pre-register, make checks payable to “Jefferson Local Schools” and mail along with name, phone number, and emergency contact name and number to: West Jefferson High School, Karla Fry, 1 Roughrider Drive, West Jefferson, Ohio 43162.

For more information, contact Lori Denes at 740-852-0396 or Jen Miller at the school, 614-879-7681, ext. 2300.
