With the fireplace roaring and hundreds of lanterns placed around the path creating a welcoming glow, dozens of residents from the west side braved a cold night to participate in the third annual Winter Illumination at Westgate Park on Dec. 1. For nearly two hours, residents drank coffee and hot chocolate, ate cookies and popcorn and enjoyed carols from the Westgate Glee Club. The event was established by the Westgate Recreation Center and the Westgate Community Recreation Council as a way to bring the community together for a fun night out.
Neal Bronder and Jean George enjoy a cup of hot chocolate by the fire to stay warm in the open shelter house. George, like a few others in attendance, adorned herself with festive necklace lights to spruce up the night.
