Thousands of people across the state and throughout the country descended upon the Town Center on June 18 and 19 to partake in the eighth annual Wine and Arts Festival presented by the Heart of Grove City. According to representatives with the Heart of Grove City, this event attracted 20 Ohio-based wineries, dozens of craft artisans and close to 30,000 people. Among those who traveled to the city for the event was Amy Olson, a resident of Wisconsin. Olson said she was visiting friends in the area and made it a point to come out to this event. “I like art and I like wine so this is a great place for me,” she said after taking a tour (with a glass of wine in hand) of Artee the Art Bus.
Britt Hallowell, an artist who resides in Grove City, stands alongside a few of her encaustic paintings. Instead of using traditional paints, she makes her creations using beeswax, damar resin, oil paint, India inks, and collage. She said the wax will not melt unless it sits in a room that reaches 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
Kelly Brandeberry, the owner of the Enon-based Brandeberry Winery, pours a glass of one of her creations for a patron. This is the fourth year the Brandeberry Winery has made an appearance at the Wine and Arts Festival.
Michigan resident Phil Lassak demonstrates grating a garlic bulb using a handcrafted grater. “I like to think it works pretty well,” he said of his family-operated creations. He said despite spending years grating garlic, he still does not know the trick to removing the smell off of hands and utensils.
Greg Russell showcases a faux cheese, wine and bread spread that his wife, Deborah Russell, created using recycled bottles and items. He said she is the creative brains behind their Dover-based Unique Bottle Serving Trays whereas he is “just the peddler.”
