Paper recycling at Parkview
Parkview United Methodist Church, 344 S. Algonquin Ave., is providing the community with recycling bins for paper products. Bring newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc., to the green and yellow bins in the church parking lot. No cardboard or phone books will be accepted. Questions, call 875-7231.
Exercise for seniors
Seniors are invited to exercise on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Ave. Men and women aged 50 to 90 and up have exercised at the facility since 2001. The instructor leads each session with warm-ups, play balls, resistance bands, hand weights, some low-impact aerobics and balance activities. VFW Post 6065
VFW Post 6065 will hold their meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. Meetings last about one hour and are held at the Prairie Township Senior Center, 4656 West Broad St. Those interested in getting involved or volunteering time should attend a meeting. The Ladies Auxiliary meets at 6:30 p.m. The motivations of the VFW are patriotic, historical, and educational. Golden Age Center
The Salvation Army Golden Age Center, 2300 W. Mound St., invites anyone aged 60 or over to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for lunch, crafts, movies, BINGO, games, health and fitness, and fun. The West High School class of 1963 is having their 45th class reunion Oct. 3-4. Westland boosters cruise in
The Westland High School Band Boosters will be hosting a cruise in on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. unil 3 p.m. The cruise in will benefit our marching band. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. for $10. Preregistration is $7 until Sept. 1. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 50 cars registered. Food, door prizes, raffles and music will be available. GriefShare support group
GriefShare recovery support group (your journey from mourning to Joy) will be hosted by Cypress Wesleyan Church in Galloway each Sunday at 6 p.m. Sept. 14 through Dec. 7. The class will meet at the District Center, 457 Alton-Darby Creek Road. This is the brick building north of the church, close to the railroad tracks. DivorceCare seminar
DivorceCare recovery seminar and support group will meet at Cypress Wesleyan Church, 377 Alton-Darby Creek Roadeach Sunday at 6 p.m., Sept. 14 through Nov. 23. There will also be one session held on Saturday, Sept. 27. DC4K (DivorceCare for Kids) will be offered at the same time on Sundays and child/ren, ages 5-12, are welcome to attend if you are in the DivorceCare class. Rock On Sullivant
The West Side Free Store, 3030 Sullivant Ave., will hold Rock On Sullivant, an after school experience for elementary aged children, on Wednesday afternoons beginning Sept. 10. Activities include art, snacks, time for homework, computers and games. Green Lawn seeking volunteers
Central Ohioans looking for a community project for Make A Difference Day on Oct. 25 can perform volunteer service at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Ave.
A variety of tasks are available for individuals and groups who will be assisting the ground crew in preparing the area’s largest cemetery for winter. Many of the tasks involve fall landscaping chores.

WNA hosts Mugs and Muffins
The Westgate Neighbors Association will host coffee with neighbors at the Mugs and Muffins events Sept. 6 and Sept. 20, from 8-10 a.m. at the Westgate Park open shelter house.

First Saturday at Green Lawn
Former Columbus Police officer Alexis Keeler who owned a house in Olde Town East is being recognized at the First Saturday at Green Lawn program on Sept. 6.
Steve Daoust, an Olde Town East resident who discovered Keeler was the original owner of his house, will talk about Keeler and his law enforcement career as well as tell how he made the discovery of the original owner and what he is doing with the information.
The program, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 11 a.m. in the Huntington Chapel at Green Lawn, 1000 Greenlawn Ave.
American Legion Post 799
American Legion Post 799 holds thier monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Prairie Township Fire Station, 123 Inah Ave. The Post is actively focusing on fund raising activities for the remainder of 2008 and support is needed.

Senior luncheon
There will be a senior luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at noon at Westgate United Methodist Church, 61 S. Powell Ave. Jonelle Oman will be the guest speaker and will share about Prescription Access Network available to seniors. Programs are available that could possible lower costs for some prescriptions. The luncheon is open to the public, donations will be accepted.
Car seat inspection
Does your child’s car seat fit correctly in your vehicle? Are your children in the correct type of seat and facing the right way for their height, weight and age? Is the harness system snug enough to prevent injury? Make sure your child’s car seat is properly installed on Oct. 18 at a free car seat safety check outside the Grove City YMCA.
Conducted by Columbus Public Health, the car seat safety inspection will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in front of the Grove City YMCA, 3600 Discovery Dr.
Those performing the safety checks are certified child passenger safety technicians.
“Four out of five car seats are not used correctly,” says Brandie Keys with Columbus Public Health. “This is why we encourage parents, grandparents and caregivers to take advantage of this free inspection.”
The safety check, co-sponsored by the MOMS Club of Grove City and Chick-Fil-A will be held in conjunction with the annual touch-a-truck event held every year at the Grove City, YMCA.

Cub Scout Fun Night
Cub Scout Fun Night will be held Sept. 8, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Glenwood United Methodist Church, 2833 Valleyview Dr. The evening, which will include arts and crafts, popcorn, games and more, is open to families intererested in joining scouting. Cub Scouts are for boys entering first through fifth grades.
Crafters wanted
The Franklin Heights High School band boosters will hold its annual Holiday Crafts Bazaar on Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Franklin Heights High School, 1001 Demorest Road in Columbus.

Meet a NASCAR driver
As a part of its NASCAR Nationwide Series sponsorship, Nationwide is hosting events throughout the country to encourage drivers to be smart through their Driving While Distracted campaign.
This free event will come to West High School Sept. 3 from 3-5 p.m. Fans can meet NASCAR driver Jeff Burton, have their photo taken at an imaging station, get free giveaways, win prizes and try out a NASCAR simulator.
Neighborhood Festival
In May of 1933, Immanuel Baptist Church began its ministry. As part of the church’s year-long 75th anniversary celebration, Immanuel is hosting a Neighborhood Festival on Sept. 13, from 1-5 p.m. on the church’s property at 3417 Palmetto St. The festival will include inflatables, carnival style games, food and more.
