Paper recycling at Parkview
Parkview United Methodist Church, 344 S. Algonquin Ave., is providing the community with recycling bins for paper products. Bring newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc., to the green and yellow bins in the church parking lot. No cardboard or phone books will be accepted.
Exercise for seniors
Seniors are invited to exercise on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Ave. Men and women aged 50 to 90 and up have exercised at the facility since 2001. The instructor leads each session with warm-ups, play balls, resistance bands, hand weights, some low-impact aerobics and balance activities. VFW Post 6065
VFW Post 6065 will hold their meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. Meetings last about one hour and are held at the Prairie Township Senior Center, 4656 West Broad St. Those interested in getting involved or volunteering time should attend a meeting. The Ladies Auxiliary meets at 6:30 p.m. The motivations of the VFW are patriotic, historical, and educational. Golden Age Center
The Salvation Army Golden Age Center, 2300 W. Mound St., invites anyone aged 60 or over to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for lunch, crafts, movies, BINGO, games, health and fitness, and fun. Westland Area Commission
The next meeting of the Westland Area Commission will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, XXXX, at Doctors’ Hospital, 5100 W. Broad St. Area residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and speak with commission members about concerns they have in the community.

The Westland High School Football Boosters will hold its first annual Golf Outing on Friday, Aug. 8 at the Marysville Golf Club, 13683 State Route 38. Registration and the putting cost will be at 7:45 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 8:30 a.m. Registration fee is $65 per person, and includes golf, cart and lunch. GWB hosts NNO picnic
The Great Western Blockwatch will sponsor their annual National Night Out Against Crime picnic on Aug. 5 at Hoge Memorial Church, 2930 West Broad St., at 6 p.m. There will be free food (supplies may be limited so come early), prizes and fun for all. The Columbus Division of Police K-9 Unit and mounted patrol will be there as well as the Columbus Division of Fire’s safe house, which uses simulated smoke to safely show children what it is like to be in a real fire. The fire department will also be bringing a fire truck for kids of all ages to look at and climb on. Bring your cameras and get pictures of the kids sitting in the driver’s seat.
FHHS band cruise-in
Franklin Heights High School band boosters will hold its annual Bands on the Run Cruise-in on Aug. 10 at Franklin Heights High School, 1001 Demorest Road.
Registration takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an $8 registration fee for the first vehicle and a $4 fee for each additional vehicle. The award ceremony begins at 4 p.m. The first 100 entries will receive dash plaques. All makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome.
The cruise-in will feature live entertainment, door prizes, a 50/50 raffles and plenty of food and refreshments. All proceeds will benefit the marching band.

Ice Cream and Crafts festival
Columbia Heights United Methodist Church, 775 Galloway Road, will host an Ice Cream and Crafts Festival on Friday, August 8, from 4-9 p.m., and Saturday, August 9, from 10 a.m.- 8 p.m.
They will have Handel’s ice cream, food, games and craft vendors.
Karaoke will take place from 6-9 p.m. on Friday night.

Plumbing workshop
The Lincoln Village/West Broad Clean and Safe Community Project, in partnership with Homes on the Hill, will sponsor a home maintenance workshop on plumbing on Aug. 18, from 6–8p.m at the Westland Area Library, 4740 West Broad Street.
The project is a neighborhood partnership grant funded by the Columbus Foundation and The United Way of Central Ohio.
West Broad cleanup
The Lincoln Village/West Broad Clean and Safe Community Project have scheduled a cleanup for Aug. 23. Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. at the Lincoln Village entrance sign in the Giant Eagle parking lot. Any students participating in the cleanup will receive a community service certificate.
American Legion Post 799
The American Legion Post 799 holds their monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Meetings are held at the Prairie Township Fire Station, 123 Inah Ave. The next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 12. Free plumbing repair workshop
Homes on the Hill CDC will host a free homeowner education workshop geared towards homeowners on Aug. 25 from 6-8 p.m. at 12 S. Terrace Ave. At the workshop, individuals will learn to maintain their homes through basic repairs and regular home inspections. The course is open to the public and free of charge.
The upcoming workshop will focus on plumbing basics and preventative maintenance. Guest speaker Cliff Spruill, rehab tech for the city of Columbus, will take questions and demonstrate simple home repairs.

West High class of 1964
The West High School class of 1964 is having their 45th class reunion Oct. 3-4. Friday evening, attendees will gather at Magly Field for the West Homecoming Game followed by a casual time from 9-11 p.m. at O’Charlie’s at I-270 and Georgesville Road. The Westland High School Band Boosters will be hosting a cruise in on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. unil 3 p.m. The cruise in will benefit our marching band. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. for $10. Wayne Watchers NNO
Wayne Watchers Blockwatch will host their 13th annual National Night Out celebration with a potluck and cookout. The event will feature a ladder truck from the Columbus Division of Fire and a visit from Sparky, as well as the Columbus Division of Police’s mounted patrol and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. There will be an antique fire truck for viewing and raffles for children and adults. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided, everyone should bring a covered dish and lawn chairs. The event runs from 6-10 p.m.
A Home of Your Own
Homes on the Hill CDC will hold the homebuyer education course, “A Home of Your Own,” geared toward first time homebuyers on Aug. 4, 11 and 18 from 6-9 p.m. at 12 S. Terrace Ave. The course is open to the public and free of charge. The workshop will cover topics ranging from financial literacy, credit and mortgage loans to how to choose a realtor, home inspections and the closing process. Guest speakers will include area professionals in the fields of lending, real estate and housing.
