Paper recycling at Parkview
Parkview United Methodist Church, 344 S. Algonquin Ave., is providing the community with recycling bins for paper products. Bring newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc., to the green and yellow bins in the church parking lot. No cardboard or phone books will be accepted.
Exercise for seniors
Seniors are invited to exercise on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Ave. Men and women aged 50 to 90 and up have exercised at the facility since 2001. The instructor leads each session with warm-ups, play balls, resistance bands, hand weights, some low-impact aerobics and balance activities. Each participant can adapt the routine to his/her comfort level. The cost is $35 for each eight-week session. Call the instructor, Lori Vazquez, at 989-4595 with questions.
VFW Post 6065
VFW Post 6065 will hold their meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. Meetings last about one hour and are held at the Prairie Township Senior Center, 4656 West Broad St. Those interested in getting involved or volunteering time should attend a meeting. The Ladies Auxiliary meets at 6:30 p.m. The motivations of the VFW are patriotic, historical, and educational. Golden Age Center
The Salvation Army Golden Age Center, 2300 W. Mound St., invites anyone aged 60 or over to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for lunch, crafts, movies, BINGO, games, health and fitness, and fun. The Westland High School Football Boosters will hold its first annual Golf Outing on Friday, Aug. 8 at the Marysville Golf Club, 13683 State Route 38. Registration and the putting cost will be at 7:45 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 8:30 a.m. Registration fee is $65 per person, and includes golf, cart and lunch. Immunization clinics
The Franklin County Board of Health offers child and adult immunizations at 12 clinic sites throughout the community. Required immunizations are available for $10 administration fee to children ages one momth to eighteen years of age. In addition, there is a $15 assessment fee that will be charged each visit. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay for childhood immunizations.
Adult immunizations are also available at the clinic and vary in price according to the vaccine. International travel immunizations are not available.
Be sure to bring your child’s shot record to the clinic. A completed consent form is required if a child’s parent or legal guardian is not present at the clinic.
The Westside’s clinic will be held Wednesday, July 16 at the Prairie Township Fire Department, 123 Inah Ave., from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1-3:30 p.m.

Golf outing to benefit Ready
The second annual Marge Kusan Memorial Golf Outing will be held July 12 at the Phoenix Golf Links in Grove City. Assistance available to unemployed workers
New Directions Career Center (NDCC), a non-profit, United Way agency, is offering men and women the opportunity to jump-start their careers. Advanced Career Techniques (ACT), a three day program, held from 5-9 p.m. on July 28-30, will help participants discover search strategies that work in today’s fast-paced, competitive job market. The sessions also provide an opportunity for participants to further develop successful interviewing techniques. Placement services are available – free of charge – to graduates of the ACT class.

Church yard sale
The Galloway Apostolic Church has announced its Annual Yard Sale scheduled for Friday and Saturday July 11-12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Proceeds will benefit the church’s building fund. The event will take place at the church’s future building site along Norton Road near Johnson Road in Galloway. A large roadside banner will mark the location.
A variety of items will be on sale at deep discounts. No reasonable offers will be refused. Ice cold beverages, hot dogs, brats, cheeseburgers and baked goods will also be for sale.

Ohio Theatre offers tours
In celebration of the Ohio Theatre’s 80th birthday, CAPA will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the historic theatre with free, guided tours on Saturday, July 19, and Saturday, July 26, at 4:30 p.m. each day.
The hour-long tours will begin in the front lobby of the Ohio Theatre (39 E. State St.) and will include a look at the history and restoration of the State Theatre of Ohio, as well as a demonstration of the “Mighty Morton” theatre organ by featured organist Clark Wilson.

A Home of Your Own
Free homebuyer education workshops will be offered at Homes on the Hill CDC, 12 S. Terrace Ave., Saturdays, July 19 and 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Homes on the Hill CDC will hold the homebuyer education course, A Home of Your Own, geared toward first-time homebuyers. The course is open to the public and free of charge. The workshop will cover topics ranging from financial literacy, credit and mortgage loans to how to choose a realtor, home inspections, and the closing process. Guest speakers will include area professionals in the fields of lending, real estate, and housing. This workshop may be a requirement for some down payment assistance programs and first time homebuyer loan programs.
