West Jefferson residents who live along U.S. Route 40 can reap the benefits of local and national publicity by holding a yard sale between May 28 and June 1, the dates of the third annual National Road and West Jefferson Community Yard Sale.

The National Road yard sale will stretch 700 miles along Route 40, which begins in Baltimore, Md., and ends in East St. Louis, Ill. The Ohio National Road Association is promoting the Ohio portion of the yard sale.

The West Jefferson Business Council, an affiliate of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, is promoting West Jefferson’s participation.

Ray Martin, a member of the local business council and co-chairman of the West Jefferson leg of the mega yard sale, said participation in the five-day event is free. No yard sale permits are needed. Street banners advertising the event will be displayed in downtown West Jefferson. FirstMerit Bank, Denes Tree Farm and Central Ohio Power Sports are the banner sponsors.

FirstMerit Bank in West Jefferson also is providing 15 yard sale spaces at no charge to residents who do not live along Route 40. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested individuals should call Nathan Chobo at 614-879-8370.

West Jefferson businesses are en-couraged to participate in the event, as well, by displaying sale items and other goods on tables outside their storefronts. Village zoning regulations apply.
