The West Jefferson Community Association coordinates the annual Ox Roast over Labor Day weekend. This year’s event is set for Sept. 3-5 in Garrette Park. For more information about any part of the event, go to www.westjeffoxroast.org.

7 p.m. Watermelon eating contest – main stage

Saturday—Superhero Day with visits from Spiderman at 2 p.m. and Batman at 3 p.m., plus a training grounds where participants earn super suits (cape, mask and arm cuffs)
Sunday—Candyland Day with a fairy trail (at the end of which you get to fill a takeout box at the candybar), balloons at 1 p.m., and a candy taste test from 2 to 4 p.m.
Monday—Down on the Farm Day with free pony rides from 2 to 4 p.m. and a barnyard mystery game.
