Action was swift and the October meeting short for the Jefferson Local Board of Education compared to previous months with packed audiences and a plethora of speakers.
From the call to order by board President Melissa Adams to the final gavel, the Oct. 11 meeting in the high school/middle school auditeria lasted less than 25 minutes.
Up for approval on the agenda was a 2.75 percent salary adjustment, , retroactive to July 1, for three members of the central office staff
The salary base increase is similar to one agreed to by the teachers’ union and impacts two employees in the treasurer’s office and one in the superintendent’s office.
“It is reasonable to keep in line with everyone else,” said Treasurer Mark Ingles.
In other action, the board approved nine donations from $40 from Chantal Weldon to Norwood Elementary for clothing closet supplies to $3,066 for the athletic department from the Athletic Boosters.
The donations also included: $599 to the district from the Athletic Boosters to purchase a new refrigerator for the home concession stand; $1,000 to the high school student council from Dan Howard/Buckeye BBQ; $150 to the high school mock trial team from Matt and Melissa Adams; $500 to the high school band program from Cathleen Campbell and Battelle; three sensory bags to Norwood Elementary from the Autism Society; and $100 to the high school Renaissance Club from Smoothie King.
Board members also accepted the resignation of Sherry Chamberlain as middle school science teacher, employed Amanda Fout on a one-year contract as a permanent substitute teacher at Norwood, and approved a list of one-year extracurricular boys’ and girls’ basketball and wrestling coach contracts for the 2021-22 school year.
