West Jefferson village council will meet in a special session Jan. 22 to discuss development with David Kell, the village’s new development director.
The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m., following council’s development committee meeting which is set for 5:30. Council approved Kell as the village’s development director at the first meeting of the 2018. The meeting will take place in council chambers at village hall, 28 E. Main St., and is open to the public.
The announcement of the special meeting came during council’s regular Jan. 15 meeting, which lasted just 17 minutes. The agenda featured one item, which council tabled in order to obtain more information.
The resolution would have allowed the village to move forward with purchases of several items in the 2018 budget, including a zero-turn mower, water meter and radio read endpoints, a wood chipper, and a furnace and air conditioner for the Community Center. However, questions arose over the size and cost of the wood chipper. Council voted to table the resolution until their questions are answered.
An indoor walking path should be ready for use at the Community Center by Feb. 1, according to a report from Marci Darlington, parks and recreation director. A chair exercise class should be ready to start at about the same time.
Additionally, the Community Center will host a Mental Health First Aid Class from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 27. The class includes lunch. For details, call parks and recreation at (740) 490-8317.
