West Jeff beats Fort Frye to advance to regional finals

West Jefferson High School’s varsity football team traveled to Lancaster on Nov. 10 to play Fort Frye in a Div. VI Region 23 football playoff game. The Roughriders won the game 49-30 to advance to the regional final game set for Nov. 17 against Garaway in Zanesville.

West Jefferson quarterback Austin Buescher finds a hole in the defense and breaks away for a 25-yard touchdown run. Buescher ran for 77 yards on eight rushes and also completed 20 passes in 25 attempts for 333 yards and three touchdown passes to lead West Jefferson’s offense.
West Jefferson running back Wyatt Keyt looks to make a cut against Fort Frye. Keyt ended the game with 76 yards on nine rush attempts and scored two touchdowns for the Roughriders.
The West Jefferson defense played strongly in stopping the offense of Fort Frye. Led by Luke West on defense with 11 tackles, the Roughriders held Fort Frye to 325 total yards, 212 yards rushing and 113 yards passing. The West Jefferson offense had 519 total yards, 186 rushing and 333 yards passing.
West Jefferson receiver Mason Book goes high over the defense for the catch and then ran for a touchdown. Book had seven receptions for 221 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Head Coach Shawn Buescher addresses the team after the game, telling them how proud he is of them against a very good Fort Frye team.
