Virtual Bash raises $46,700 for Alder athletics

The Jonathan Alder Athletic Boosters did not let a pandemic squash their annual fundraiser. They decided to take it virtual this year.

“It was a tough decision to make,” says Boosters President Tricia Kidd. “In December, we finally made the decision to go virtual and we were amazed at the awesome response!”

Thomas Fenner Woods Insurance Agency, the main event sponsor, provided bags for distribution of auction items.

The Virtual Bash started with a reverse raffle that sold all 50 tickets in two days.

“There were four cash prizes, and the winner of the final ticket drawn got their choice of an auction item,” said Jean Sowers, vice president and event co-chair. “Christy Hatcher of Lil e’s was the final ticket winner. She is one of our sponsors and a great supporter of JA athletics.”

To help promote the event, sponsors recorded promotional videos bringing in hundreds of views. Jan & Tony’s Pizza recruited the Jonathan Alder track team to “toss” their name around while Smiles to Love employees did a skit in Alder gear.

The Virtual Bash raised $46,761.87 of which nearly $37,000 goes directly to team accounts. The silent auction featured 194 items with the wrestling team raising the most money for their program.

“We are grateful for our parents, coaches, sponsors and the Alder community who stepped up and either purchased an item or donated to the event,” Kidd said. “We are planning to return to an in-person event next year, but it is wonderful to know we can count on Alder Nation to support us even in a virtual environment.”
