West Jefferson village council is creating an app to help residents access village resources.

Council signed a $25,420 contract with OVC APPS for the creation of an app that will house a calendar of events, information on village departments and village news.

Plain City has a similar app. West Jefferson plans to model theirs after Plain City’s.

“We’re always looking for ways to communicate better,” said Jen Warner, council president.

The app can be updated quickly and easily, allowing for faster communication with residents, she said.

The village’s respective departments will be responsible for updating their information in the app. Each department will have a person appointed to transfer information to the app during the app’s initial design.

The contract with OVC APPS will last three years. Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act funding is covering the entire cost.

The app will be available on Android and iPhone devices for free download from the app store by the end of 2020, said Mayor Ray Martin.

“Information, information, information. This is just another avenue of information for people,” Martin said.
