Veterans Day in Canal Winchester
The city of Canal Winchester, with Canal Winchester Senior Citizens, Inc. and VFW Post 10523 will host a veterans march on Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. and ceremony immediately following the parade. The march will begin at Frances Steube Community Center’s 22 S. Trine St. entrance and continue onto East Waterloo Street between Trine Street and High Street, turning at South High Street to end at Stradley Place.The ceremony will be held at Stradley Place (located next to Canal Winchester Municipal Office Building at 36 S. High St. in downtown Canal Winchester).
The ceremony will include remarks from Rick Williams of VFW Post #10523, Mayor Michael Ebert, and keynote speaker Warren Motts of Motts Military Museum. Other highlights will include a special performance of the National Anthem by Councilman Mike Walker, a 21 Gun Salute and the playing of “Taps.”Veterans photos will be displayed in an honorary window exhibit at the city’s municipal building. Veterans Day in Groveport
Groveport will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. in Veterans Park, located on the corner of Main Street and Hilly Alley.The speaker will be Roger Dyer, the vice president of Honor Flight Columbus. He has been active with Honor Flight for 11 years and on the Honor Flight Columbus board for 10 of those years. A former Army combat engineer, he earned the rank of staff sergeant. He is a graduate of Marshall University and retired from AEP after 30 years of public affairs work. Dyer is a volunteer and life member at Motts Military Museum where he was in charge of the restoration of the historic landing craft from World War II.
Motts Military Museum Director Warren Motts will serve as master of ceremonies for the event and lead the “Pledge of Allegiance.” The ceremony will include the traditional flag raising by American Legion Robert Dutro Post #486 of Groveport; vocalist Udo Maroscher, U.S. Navy, will sing “The Star Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America;” Chaplain Brad Beatty American Legion Robert Dutro Post #486 will conduct the invocation and benediction; Groveport Mayor Lance Westcamp will welcome those in attendance; Gene Stacy SFC Combat Engineers, Vietnam, Grove City, will recognize this year’s memorial brick honorees; a three volley salute will be made by the Groveport Police Dept. Honor Guard with Honor Guard Commander Sgt. Short; “Taps” will be played by American Legion Robert Dutro Post #486 and bagpiper Capt. James Dean of the Madison Township Police Honor Guard.
All are invited to a reception immediately following the ceremony at Motts Military Museum, 5075 South Hamilton Road, Groveport.Also Boy Scout Troop 71 will conduct a flag retirement ceremony at Motts Military Museum at 4:30 p.m. for those who wish to properly retire their used American Flags.
