On Nov. 11, more than 200 military veterans and their families came to Monterey Elementary to witness the school’s 10th annual Veterans Day celebration. For more than an hour, students sang patriotic songs, branch hymns and held a festive presentation with paper plates to honor the flag. Here, students wave around those plates while singing ‘America the Beautiful.’

Students like Ava Martinez passed out thank you cards to members of the military as they left the assembly. She even got to present one to her grandfather Edd Vanderpool, an Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War.
