The Village of Valleyview is looking for a few good people who are interested in serving on the village council.
As a new year begins, council is looking to bring its membership up to full force. It is one person shy since only one person had run last November when there were two openings.
This gives Mayor Tom Watkins the opportunity to appoint someone to fill the vacant seat. The term of the open seat will run through Dec. 31, 2012.
People interested in serving the four-year term can drop their resumes off at the Village Hall where there is a drop box in case no one is at the building. Resumes must be received by Jan. 28.
Resumes should include the person’s qualifications to serve as a member of council and should be accompanied by a statement of why that person wants to be on council, Watkins said.
A prospective council member must have been a resident of the village for at least one year and can not have any felonies on his or her record.
The resume will be copied and distributed to the current members of council to study and decide who should be appointed, Watkins said.
Council meets the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall.
Valleyview Village Council’s Jan. 7 meeting was called off because some members were ill, thus leaving the body with less than a quorum to conduct business.
Watkins has talked with council members to determine the best time they can gather for a January meeting that will include start-of-the-year business as well as a third reading to make the position of police chief a full-time position.
