The following are among the pets up for adoption at the Humane Society of Madison County.

Mabel
I’m Mabel, an easy-going, 10-year-old boxer mix doggy. I came to the shelter after a nice person found me and knew I needed to get somewhere safe. I love treats, love to visit the cat adoption room, and I do well with fellow older canines who don’t jump on me and bug my joints.
I keep my kennel clean and still have a lot of miles under the hood. The staff here call me a “roomba vacuum cleaner” because I am always sure to pick up treats that fall onto the floor. I’m a big girl at 84 pounds, but I walk well on a leash and have a very gentle soul. If you are looking for an older, calm dog who appreciates a soft bed and loves to take naps with you, look no further.
Adoption fees for dogs vary: shelter dogs are $180, prison dogs are $250, puppies are $300, and popular pure-breeds are $400. The price includes: a Home Again microchip, set of shots, deworming, heartworm testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). All dogs adopted must leave with a county license at an additional cost of $17; this fee is cash only. Adoption fees can be paid by cash or credit card.

A Star is Born
Meet our friend, A Star is Born. She is getting a fresh start at the shelter. This young lady has an estimated birthdate of July 15, 2021. She was found abandoned with some of her siblings, so she hasn’t always had it easy. She has gained more and more trust with people since being at the shelter. She has transformed into the sweetest girl and loves nothing more than to sit on a nice warm lap or next to you on the couch and get all the pets you’re willing to give her. She purrs up a storm and is a total lovebug.
She has discovered she is a huge fan of being brushed, and that makes her gorgeous coat super shiny. She will be a wonderful addition to the lucky person or family who gives her a chance. Star is a very observant girl who loves people watching and checking out the other kitties. She is a big fan of canned food and treats.
With slow and proper intros to people or other pets, the shelter staff think she will adjust just fine. She loves other cats and would love to be around other kitties. Pets with calm, polite energy would be great. Star would do just fine with kids who have experience with kitties.
The adoption fee is $100 for kittens up to 6 months old and $80 for cats 7 months and older. It includes: a FeLV/FIV test (if old enough), spay or neuter, set of shots, deworming, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). Fees can be paid by cash or credit card.
