Two Groveport Madison middle schools honored by state

The State Board of Education and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria released its list of annual achievement awards. Among the 436 schools honored were Groveport Madison Middle School South and Groveport Madison Middle School Central.

Middle School South received the 2019 Momentum Award. This award recognizes schools for exceeding expectations in student growth for the year. Schools must earn straight A’s on all Value-Added measures on the report card. The school must have at least two Value-Added subgroups of students, which includes gifted, lowest 20 percent in achievement, and students with disabilities. This year, 173 of Ohio’s public schools received this award.

Middle School Central received the 2019 Schools of Honor – High Progress Award. This award recognized 71 of Ohio’s public schools serving a significant number of economically disadvantaged students that received an A or B on the Progress component of the Ohio School Report Card, with 90 percent or more of all students scoring Proficient or higher in reading and math on statewide assessments over the last five years.

“These two schools are great illustrations of the incredible work taking place across Groveport Madison Schools,” said Groveport Madison Superintendent Garilee Ogden. “Our staff is very dedicated and focused on ensuring our students have the knowledge, resources, and support they need to meet their full potential. I truly believe that recognition such as this affirms that we have a good plan in place and we are moving in the right direction. I hope the community joins me in congratulating both Middle School South and Middle School Central on these incredible accomplishments.”
