Two die in plane crash at Madison County Airport

Two men died in a plane crash at Madison County Airport on April 18.

According to the West Jefferson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a Cessna 172 crashed near the approach end of the airport runway at approximately 6:20 p.m. The single-engine plane sustained severe damage and was on its top when troopers and first responders arrived.

The left-seat occupant, Athar Mohammad Ashraf, 43, of Columbus, suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The right-seat occupant also suffered fatal injuries at the scene. As of press time on April 19, the second occupant’s identity was being withheld pending notification of his family.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, London Division of Fire & EMS, Madison County Coroner’s Office, Madison County Emergency Medical District, and Central Townships Joint Fire District.

The Madison County Airport is located off of U.S. Route 40, north of London.
