A trooper from the West Jefferson post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was struck while investigating a crash today at 6:19 a.m. The injury crash occurred on U.S. Route 42 in Madison County.
At approximately 5:33 a.m., troopers were dispatched to a two-vehicle minor injury crash on U.S. Route 42 near Interstate 70. Trooper Jason R. Hofmann was out of his patrol car, wearing his reflective vest, taking measurements on the right berm. A tan Chevrolet Astro van traveling southbound on U.S. Route 42 drifted off the right side of the road and struck Hofmann.
Hofmann sustained serious injuries and was transported via med flight to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
The driver of the Chevrolet Astro van, Cynthia Faulk, 64, of Plain City was not injured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
