The Madison County Park Board Commissioners Dr. Tony Xenikis and Chris Wallace recognized trail ambassador volunteers for their hours of service at the annual meeting of the Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails (FMCPT). The meeting took place Jan. 17 at the Madison County Engineer’s Office. FMCPT is a nonprofit dedicated to Madison County Parks and its piece of the Ohio to Erie Trail.

A total of 24 volunteers gave 3,116.5 hours of their time in 2023, including 972.5 hours volunteered by Gregg Alexander, 519 hours by Jim Pozy, 398 hours by Wayne Roberts, 149 hours by Alan Knowles, and 145.5 hours by Harry Huffman.

Trail ambassadors promote trail camaraderie, help trail travelers with advice and information, highlight the local community, and create a welcoming environment for everyone on the trails in Madison County. Ambassadors also assist with trail maintenance, such as clearing honeysuckle, blowing leaves off the trail, and weeding.

FMCPT is looking for volunteers who are at least 18 years old, enjoy riding on the Ohio to Erie Trail, and have the ability to communicate positively with staff, trail users, and property owners adjacent to the trail. To learn more, visit https://fmcpt.com/programs/ or call Julia Cumming, Madison Soil and Water Conservation District program administrator, at (740) 852-4003.
