Between May 20 and May 27, a total of 476 students graduated from Madison County’s four public high schools.
London
London City Schools held commencement ceremonies for the class of 2018 on May 20 at the high school.
Of the 137 students in the class, 24 graduated with honors, 35 as members of National Honor Society, and five as members of the National Technical Honor Society.
The valedictorian is Ethan Pozy, who has been accepted into the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University.
The salutatorian is Emily Minner, who plans to study engineering at the United States Military Academy (West Point). A second London student, Miller Kronk, also was appointed to West Point.
The class officers include: Troy McFarland, president; Emily Minner, vice president; Ethan Pozy, treasurer; Hannah Borden-Coleman, secretary.
The class flower is the variegated carnation. The class colors are red and white. The class chose “Good Old Days’ by Macklemore as their song and the following quote from Eleanor Roosevelt as their motto: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
Madison-Plains
Madison-Plains Local Schools held commencement ceremonies for the class of 2018 on May 25 at the high school.
Of the 102 students in the class, 13 graduated with honors diplomas and 21 as members of National Honor Society.
The valedictorians and their college choices are: Jenna Lawless, Cedarville University; and Jennifer Shafer, The Ohio State University. Both plan to major in nursing.
The salutatorian is Ben Fisher, who plans to major in mechanical engineering at the University of Mount Union.
The class officers include: Ian Richards, president; Griffin Jones, vice president; Ben Fisher, treasurer; Amber Huffman, secretary; and Zach Marchiando, sergeant-at-arms.
The class flower is the yellow rose. The class colors are green and gold. The class chose the following quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson as their motto: “What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.”
West Jefferson
Jefferson Local Schools held commencement ceremonies for the class of 2018 on May 26 at the high school.
Of the 87 students in the class, 21 graduated with honors diplomas, 27 as members of National Honor Society, and one as a member of the Tolles Career and Technical Center Honor Society.
The valedictorians are Thomas Farbacher, Sarah Haskins and Taylor Keckley, all of whom plan to attend The Ohio State University.
The salutatorian is Hope Lewis, who plans to attend Otterbein University.
Brandon Hunt was named as the outstanding vocational student.
The class officers include: Sarah Haskins, president; Harlie Keith, vice president; Sydney Looby, secretary; Edward Nawman, treasurer; Thomas Farbacher, historian; and Taylor Keckley, public relations.
The class flower is the white daisy. The class colors are black and gold. The class chose “Life Changes” by Thomas Rhett as their song and the following as their motto: “Our lives are before us; our pasts are behind us, but our memories are forever with us.”
Jonathan Alder
Jonathan Alder Local Schools held commencement ceremonies for the class of 2018 on May 27 at the high school.
Of the 150 students in the class, 68 graduated with honors.
The valedictorians and their college choices are: Julia Babyak, The Ohio State University; Megan Gordin, Ohio University; Maryn Herring, Wilmington College; Kayla Iwamoto, Miami University; Serenity Kirts, University of Rio Grande; Peyton Mast, The Ohio State University or Miami University; Oscar Ose, The Ohio State University; and Jaron Wheelbarger, Ohio University.
The salutatorian is Madison McMillen, who plans to attend Miami University.
The class officers include: Ivan Wehner, president; Olivia Moore, vice president; Julia Babyak, secretary; Peyton Mast, treasurer; and Madison McMillen, Tolles liaison.
The class flower is the white rose. The class colors are red and black. The class chose the following as their motto: “Some men see things as they are and ask, ‘Why?’ I dream things that never were and ask, ‘Why not?’ ”
