Throwback to pioneer ways

The Madison County Historical Society hosted its annual Pioneer Days Festival Sept. 28-29 on the history museum grounds in London. Several reenactors, demonstrators and vendors were on hand. Visitors learned about everything from blacksmithing to tomahawk throwing.

Jonathan Alder’s wife, Mary Blont (portrayed by Nancy Dever), sits in the Jonathan Alder cabin built in 1806 and tells stories about herself and Alder, who was captured by the Shawnee Indians, lived with them and later returned to the white community.
