Take home a cat this Christmas

Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve, the Capital Area Humane Society is encouraging central Ohio residents to celebrate the holiday season by becoming a “forever family” for a homeless cat or kitten.

From Nov. 23 to Dec. 31, the Humane Society is hosting a Forever Family Holiday Cat Adopt-a-Thon, with the goal of finding homes for 200 cats and kittens.

“The holidays are a great time to welcome a cat or kitten into your family and there are so many homeless cats in our community.” said Jodi Lytle Buckman, executive director of the Capital Area Humane Society. “Nothing would make our holidays brighter than to help these beautiful cats find a place to call home for 2008 and well beyond.”

The Humane Society found homes for 32 cats and kittens during the first week of the drive alone, and is hoping reach its goal of 200 adoptions before the ball drops on New Year’s Eve. To encourage adoptions, the adoption fee for all adult cats (one year or older), has been reduced to $30 – more than half off the shelter’s normal adoption fee. All cats are spayed or neutered and have current vaccinations.

If you’re interested in meeting any of the cats and kittens available for adoption at the Capital Area Humane Society, you can visit the shelter at 3015 Scioto-Darby Executive Ct. in Hilliard. It is open to the public Monday through Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Additional information, including the shelter’s holiday hours, is available online at www.cahs-pets.org or by calling 777-7387.
