The London Rotary Club is pleased to honor senior Svetlana “Lana” Daniels as Madison-Plains High School’s February Student of the Month.
Students of the month are selected by school administrators based on their academic and extracurricular achievement and positive character.
Lana has a 4.047 grade point average and she is ranked sixth in her class. Her favorite course is calculus.
She has participated in cross country for two years, receiving the Eagle Award and Coach’s Award. She also has participated in indoor track for two years and outdoor track for three years. She has been involved with the drama club as a cast member for two years, served as class secretary her sophomore year, and been a member of National Honor Society for two years, serving as secretary this year.
When asked to name a Madison-Plains staff member who inspires her, Lana picked English teacher Jeff Belcik.
“Mr. Belcik has been an inspiration to me for years. He clearly cares for his students but in such witty and humorous ways. His intelligence is commendable in addition to his teaching style that pushes students to depend more on themselves,” she said.
Regarding Lana, Belcik said, “Lana is a bright, motivated, and compassionate individual who is well deserving of this award. She has been an exemplary role model and is one of Madison-Plains’ brightest minds and one of our most talented writers.”
After graduation, Lana plans to attend a university to major in biochemistry and minor in math. Her ultimate goal is to become a research scientist, but she also hopes to get her teacher’s license at some point to teach advanced sciences. She is the daughter of Carrie and David Daniels.
The London Rotary Club has a proud history dating back to 1929. It is a member of Rotary International, a volunteer organization of 1.2 million businesses and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service and help build good will and peace.
