Milestones in education are measured in achievements—learning the alphabet, mastering a language, understanding quadratic formulas. For Jefferson Local Schools board member Jerry Doran, his 16-year tenure was cause for recognition.

The Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) honored Doran with a Milestone Service Award. Kim Miller-Smith, OSBA’s Central Region director and senior student achievement consultant, made the presentation at the April 9 school board meeting.

“We thank Mr. Doran for his service to public education and his work to promote the students and families of the district,” Miller-Smith said. “We also thank Mr. (David) Harper for his service to the Central Region Executive Committee and to all our board members for your leadership and willingness to serve your school district and community.

“Because of efforts such as yours, we enjoy strong public schools in Ohio.”

The Central Region is one of five OSBA regions and serves 14 central Ohio counties encompassing 103 public school districts. The organization recognizes the achievements of school districts, board members, teachers, community members and district employees.
