Stabbing in Groveport (update)


On Nov. 1, at approximately 6:09 p.m. a stabbing occurred at the Kroger located at 6011 Groveport Road in Groveport.

According to the Groveport Police, reports indicate that two individuals were stabbed within the store’s outer parking lot, prompting immediate emergency response. A person of interest was located and detained in Canal Winchester by Fairfield County Deputies. The two victims were swiftly transported to nearby medical facilities for urgent care and treatment.

“The injuries do not appear to be life threatening,” said Groveport Police Capt. Kurt Blevins.

Groveport Police and several other area police agencies also responded to the scene.

“Investigative teams are diligently working to ascertain the circumstances that led to this distressing event,” said Blevins. “While specific details remain undisclosed at this time, the Groveport Police Department is committed to uncovering the truth and details ensuring the safety of the community.”

On Nov. 2, Blevins provided an update on the investigation.

“We are continuing to gather information regarding the recent stabbing incident in the Kroger parking lot,” said Blevins. “While details are still being sorted out, our detectives have determined that this was not a random act. Early findings suggest that the incident may have originated from a dispute within a relationship.”

Blevins said the investigation has revealed that the person of interest detained on Nov. 1, a juvenile, was confirmed to be directly involved in the matter and the weapon used in the incident.

“A knife, has also been recovered,” said Blevins. “The two victims involved in the stabbing are both adults. Notably, it was disclosed that at least one of the stabbing victims was found carrying a loaded magazine. However, it is essential to clarify that no firearms were recovered at the scene. My information is that one of the adult victims was treated and released. The second adult victim was admitted overnight for observation.”

Blevins said police continue to urge anyone with pertinent information to come forward and assist them in their ongoing investigation.
