A sliver of sunny Hawaii will brighten wintery London when St. Patrick School hosts a luau-themed dinner and auction on Feb. 24.
Parent volunteers are busy making a tiki hut and giant flowers to go with the surfboards and real (yes, real!) palm trees they’ll use to transform the school’s Parish Activities and Recreation Center (PARC) into an island oasis.
“This will probably be the most decorated event we’ve ever had. Our decorating committee is going all out,” said Amy Hann-Morrow, dinner/auction chair. “I’m excited to see it all come together.”
The 13th annual event serves as a fundraiser to support upkeep of the PARC and school programs. Tickets are $30 per person and available for purchase in advance at the school office, church office, or from any committee member.
The night’s entertainment includes a comedy performance and a hula dancing demonstration.
“We’ve even convinced a couple of the dads to get up and do the hula,” Hann-Morrow said.
The dinner menu offers pork, veggies, and a salad bar, plus cupcakes from Vallery Farmhouse Bakery in London.
Among the big ticket auction items are Disney tickets (including park hoppers), a 4-H market hog, Ohio State University football tickets, King’s Island tickets, and a stay at a Las Vegas condominium.
“Every year, the students make class projects that get auctioned off, too. They always do such a great job,” Hann-Morrow said.
Additionally, each classroom assembles a themed basket to be raffled off. For example, there’s a campfire basket that includes a firepit and all the goodies to make s’mores.
