The Prairie Township Community Center will be hosting a variety of events to keep township residents active this spring.

One of the events is a 5K walk at 9 a.m. on April 2 in Lincoln Village North.

“The walk will take place around Lincoln Village North and will start near the Giant Eagle Parking lot,” said James Gant, director of the Prairie Township Community Center. “We wanted to get people moving and promote being active and healthy. We thought a walk would be a nice way to get people started.”

The cost to participate in the walk is $20 and participants can register from now until April 1 through recreation.prairietownship.org.

“This fall we will also be hosting a run, but right now we are concentrating on this walk,” Gant said.

The center also will be hosting a mother/son adventure night in April. On April 29 mothers and their sons are invited to come to the center for a night of games and activities. All the details on this event are still being coordinated, including the time it will take place.

The center also plans to offer wine tasting and cooking classes down the road, but is currently busy coordinating the programming they currently offer. However, Gant said he hopes to expand this programming in the near future.

Besides the variety of new activities going on at the center, organizers are still working on continuing to add new members. Currently there are over 4,600 members, despite not even being open a whole year. According to Gant, the center hopes to eventually have 6,000 members.
