Certain bands only strike gold once with songs that become “one hit wonders,” but that singularity does not diminish the music.

The Groveport Madison Area Community Choir is celebrating one hit wonders with its upcoming show, “One Hit Wonders: A Musical Variety Show,” to be held in the Groveport Madison High School auditorium 4475 S. Hamilton Road, on Feb. 25. Show times are 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“There are so many ‘One Hit Wonders’ (songs performed or written by artists that only ever had one top 40 hit) that it seemed like a good choice for a great selection of music,” said Groveport Madison Area Community Choir Director Terri Christensen.

Christensen said one of the highlights of this year’s show is a solo/video tribute from Lori Motts-Byrd honoring Vietnam Helicopter pilots with the song. “Spirit in the Sky.”

“The segment is introduced by choir member Ron White, who was a pilot in Vietnam,” said Christensen. “It proves to be quite moving.”

Currently the Groveport Madison Area Community Choir has 80 adult members and 17 youths with at least 20 back stage and lobby volunteers.

“It’s a very diverse group of people that comes together to give back to the community by providing fun and quality entertainment,” said Christensen. “A portion of the proceeds go to charity (such as Groveport Madison Human Needs) to help folks in the area in need. The choir is a family. They come together for other events throughout the year to help in the community as well. Our members are from all over central Ohio.”
