Madison County Special Olympics has selected 28 athletes and unified partners to represent the organization at the 2008 Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games, to be held June 27-29 on The Ohio State University campus. The athletes are affiliated with the Madison County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.
• Bocce—Teddy Busk, Bryan Thomp-son, Brian Goff, Tracy Inman, Carla Koes-el, James Elliott, Dale Jones, and Jeff Horn
• Unified volleyball—Dakota Little, Bridgett Gray, Mike Ellis, Alexis Evans, Mike Mast, Paul Hiles, Lincoln Comer, Jessica Wiggins, Libby Johnson, and Terry McClain
• Track and field—Jay Large, Jamie Gordon, Jon Weeter, Taz Hamilton, Adam Campbell, John Mulkey, Shaundra Sayre, Rebecca Bell, Nick Dummitt, and Thomas Cunningham.
The athletes will compete in the 39th annual Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games, a year-around training and competition program for children and adults with mental retardation. The event will feature competition for more than 2,700 athletes from across Ohio. The program will include competition in 11 sports, as well as recreational clinics.
The athletes of Madison County plan to start the weekend at noon on June 27 as the Ceremonial Torch Run passes by the courthouse in London on its way to Columbus. The public is invited to send off Madison County’s Special Olympians.
