Returning lettermen on Southeastern’s football team are: (front row, from left) Drew Loveless, Evan Delk, Cole Sesslar, Mitch Burton, Nick Phillips, Aaron Woods, Jacob Cooke, Josh Stringfellow, Adam Farmer; (back row) Nathan Price, Connor Gram, Kevin Good, Cole Harsh, Todd Brady, Eli Pavlatos, Andrew Kemplin, Jimmy Murrey, Drew Clemons and Reed Florence.

Trust is a key word for the Southeastern football team this season.

“We do not have that great athlete that we can just go to and let him carry us. We all have to work together, work hard and  trust each other that we will do the job,” said seventh-year head coach Hal Perry.

The Trojans’ biggest challenge, he continued, is “learning how to win again and finish games.” Last year’s squad went 0-10.

This year’s squad returns a coachable and hardworking group that includes 20 returning letterwinners. Five senior captains are among the players on whom Perry is depending for leadership.

The captains include four-year letter-men Aaron Woods, a running back and defensive end, and Kevin Good, tackle on both sides of the ball. The three-year letterwinning captains are Connor Gram, center and defensive tackle, and Cole Sesslar, a wideout and defensive back. Evan Delk, a two-year letterman, plays running back and free safety.

“These captains have worked hard and they, along with all our seniors, are committed to winning,” Perry said. “As always, our goal is to go out every week and win, to compete for a league championship and make playoffs.”

To Perry, no game on the schedule is to be taken lightly. Each is a challenge.

“Our non-league opponents are very competitive and bring a long history of winning to the table,” he said. “Our league, the OHC, is one of he best small school leagues from top to bottom in the state. For the past few years, we have sent two or three teams to the playoffs.”
