The village of South Charleston Police Department and the Madison Township Fire Department will host a Community Day Aug. 9 at South Charleston Community Park.

The day kicks off at 9 a.m. with the South Charleston Pool’s Big Splash 5K run/walk. Shortly after the 5K is over, a series of softball games will start. Several businesses are fielding teams, as are the police departments and several area fire departments.

Refreshments will be served starting at about 11:30. Children’s games will run from noon to 2 p.m. A Care Flight helicopter will land at noon. A bouncy house will be set up the whole day. Also planned are a 50/50 raffle, dunk tank, free blood pressure screenings, a cornhole tournament and three-on-three basketball tournament. Basketball teams must have four members—two adults and two children. The cost to enter the cornhole and hoops tourneys is $10. The pool will be open from 4 to 7 p.m.; village residents can swim free of charge.

“After last year’s Community Day, we started the South Charleston Kids Club fund,” said Police Chief Brian Redish. “All the money comes from donations, and we use it for kids’ events throughout the year.” Coming up is a back-to-school pizza and pool party from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 15 and a Halloween party in October.

For details about Community Day, call the police department at (937) 462-8822 or the fire department at 462-8222.
