The Southeastern girls’ soccer team includes: (front row, from left) Jennifer Bryant, Kelsey Ruby, Megan Cooke, Ashley Shelton, Brooke Wise, Kara Pearl, Julie Hale, Jordan Routzahn; (back row) Head Coach Sam Stucky, Lauren Morrow, Amber Rice, Cloie Green, Amber Hayslip, Sara Morrow, Jenna Erwin, Erin Ruby, Kayla McIntire and Assistant Coach Trevor Bonsell.

The girls’ soccer team at Southeastern is a study in contrasts.

On the one hand, you have experienced senior leaders, Amber Hayslip and Sarah Morrow. The former is an all-league, all-Miami Valley goalkeeper. The latter is a hard-working center midfielder who organizes the team.

On the other hand, you have the loss of eight players due to graduation and injury. Their replacements include seven freshmen, three of whom have never played soccer.

“I want the new girls to get a better understanding of the game. For the experienced girls, I hope they are competitive in every match and surprise some people,” said third-year head coach Sam Stucky.

The Lady Trojans went 7-10 in 2007. Their schedule in 2008 is comparable to last year’s with many equal opponents, such as Yellow Springs, Urbana and Xenia Christian.

In addition to Hayslip and Morrow, returners include junior Amber Rice, a forward who should see more scoring opportunities, and Jennifer Bryant, a defender who cuts down the attack.

Returning sophomores are defender Kayla McIntire and midfielders Megan Cooke, Lauren Morrow and Kelsey Ruby.

The newcomers who bring some experi-ence with them are Jenna Erwin, a freshman who has played Select Soccer since she was 5, freshmen defenders Julie Hale and Kara Pearl, and sophomore forward Cloie Green.

Other newcomers are junior Jordan Routzahn and freshmen Erin Ruby, Ashley Shelton and Brooke Wise.

Trevor Bonsell returns as Stucky’s assistant coach.
