Returning lettermen on Southeastern’s football team are: (front row, from left) Eli Pavlatos, Nathan Price, Bo Timmons, Mitch Burton, Nick Phillips, Drew Loveless; (back row) Cole Harsh, Aaron Osborne, Eben Wildman, Reed Florence, Drew Clemons, Joey Hannah, Andrew Kemplin and Jimmy Muncy.

"We are working to instill character into our student athletes. We are really stressing the fact that we need to become a family and gel together as one,” said Greg Bonifay, new head coach of Southeastern’s football team.

“Family” is a running theme for Bonifay, who was married in South Charleston nine years ago and appreciates the warm wel-come he has received as a coach.

“I have truly enjoyed becoming part of the community. Everyone has welcomed me and my family with open arms,” he said. “It is a great opportunity coming to a community that supports athletics as they do, as well as working for a high school that has been a school of excellence for 10 years in a row.”

Bonifay counts leadership as one of the team’s strengths. His captains are: senior Drew Clemons, a running back and linebacker who worked hard on his speed in the off-season; junior Reed Florence, a three-year starter at quarterback; Nathan Price, a senior running back and defensive back; and Eben Wildman, a senior running back and linebacker.

Other key athletes include seniors Drew Loveless and Cole Harsh, both offensive and defensive linemen. Loveless is a “smart player that works hard to improve the team.” Harsh understands the offense well and didn’t miss a day in the weight room this year.

Senior Jimmy Muncy has great size, strength and experience at defensive end and offensive lineman. Junior Bo Timmons, a linebacker and tightend has a “good nose for the football.”

Bonifay’s coaching staff includes offen-sive coordinator Tom Flohre, who started coaching in 1974 and most recently served as offensive coordinator at Graham High School. Vince Banion, a Southeastern graduate, is new to the staff but brings with him a sense of school tradition. Tom Florence and Dave Saunders are returning coaches.

Bonifay coached for two years in South Carolina, four years at Stebbins High School and two years at Miamisburg High School. At Stebbins and Miamisburg, he was defensive coordinator.
