Several events honoring military veterans are planned in South Charleston in association with Veterans Day, including dedication of the new South Charleston Veterans Memorial.
Ceremonies at Schools
Southeastern Local Schools invites area veterans to Veteran’s Day Observances on Nov. 8 at both of the district’s buildings.
Miami View Elementary, 230 Clifton Rd., South Charleston, will hold their event at 9 a.m. The assembly at Southeastern High School, 195 E. Jamestown St., is set for 1:30 p.m.
Both assemblies will feature patriotic music and recognition of veterans in attendance.
Additionally, Southeastern students will participate in the dedication of the South Charleston Veterans Memorial at 1 p.m. Nov. 11.
On Nov. 10, South Charleston United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Jamestown and Church streets (15 E. Jamestown St.), will honor all veterans during the 9:30 a.m. worship service. Highlights include patriotic music, a multi-media salute to veterans, and recognition of all veterans present. A social time with light refreshments will follow the service.
Area veterans and those presently serving are invited to attend, as is the general public. For more information, call the church at (937) 462-8043 or Kim Owens at (937) 462-8709.
Veterans Memorial Dedication
The South Charleston Veterans Memorial will be dedicated at 1 p.m. Nov. 11. The public is invited to attend. The ceremony will honor local veterans, as well as all veterans from all over the country and from all periods of service.
The memorial is located at the end of Woodward Street (State Route 41), next to the bike path on the south side of the village.
In case of very inclement weather, the dedication will be moved to Southeastern High School.
