The following are among the pets up for adoption at the Humane Society of Madison County.

Snoot

Snoot
Snoot arrived at the shelter on Dec. 2, as his owners were no longer able to care for him. Snoot is a 2.5-year-old terrier mix with an estimated birthday of June 2019. He weighs around 50 pounds.

Snoot tested positive for heartworms, meaning his adoption process will be different as he goes through his heartworm treatment. Because Snoot is heartworm positive, his activity has to be restricted. He cannot rough house and play, as it is important for him to stay calm. Don’t let this stop you from meeting Snoot though, because he is a very sweet and affectionate guy who loves to please his people and could potentially be adopted through a foster-t- adopt situation.

In Snoot’s previous home, he was around other dogs, cats and children, but until his heartworm treatment is over, he would thrive as the only dog in the home to help him keep calm. Snoot loves to be out and about wherever his people are. He knows some of his basic commands and would gladly learn more for a snack. He loves to keep his kennel clean and tidy and will keep himself occupied throughout his day, chewing on a Nylabone.

Adoption fees for dogs vary: shelter dogs are $150, prison dogs are $200, puppies are $250, and popular pure-breeds are $400. The price includes: a Home Again microchip, set of shots, deworming, heartworm testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). All dogs adopted must leave with a county license at an additional cost of $17. Fees can be paid by cash or credit card.

Emery

Emery
Emery arrived on June 13 in need of her forever home, and she has an estimated birthdate of June 13, 2020. When this girl first arrived, she was very scared with little trust for humans. With each passing day, Emery trusted the shelter staff a little more. Now, it is time for her to find a home to call her own.

Emery has had the opportunity to spend time in a foster home, where she is getting socialized around other felines, children and even a cat-friendly dog. Her foster momma reports that she is doing very well. It took her a day or two to adjust to her new environment, but now she is really loving life in a home. Emery has started to show interest in toys but mostly just loves lounging around waiting for love. She will need time and patience as it will take time for her to trust her new family, but once she does, you will have found yourself a lifelong friend.

The adoption fee is $80 for kittens up to 6 months old and $60 for cats 7 months and older. It includes: a FeLV/FIV test, spay or neuter, set of shots, deworming, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). Fees can be paid by cash or credit card.

Dairy Queen Fundraiser
Throughout March, the London Dairy Queen Chill & Grill will donate 25 cents from each pup cup purchase to the Humane Society. Last year, supporters purchased more than 1,500 pup cups. The Humane Society hopes to break that record. Participants are encouraged to share photos of everyone enjoying their pup cups on the Humane Society’s Facebook page. London DQ is located at 365 Lafayette St.

Board Meeting
The Humane Society will hold its monthly board meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Hurt-Battelle Memorial Library, 270 Lilly Chapel Rd., West Jefferson.
