The race for one of two Madison County commissioner seats is packed. Six candidates have filed petitions to run for the seat now held by Robert O. Hackett.

The deadline to submit petitions for candidacy was Jan. 4. The Board of Elections was scheduled to certify the slate of candidates on Jan. 11. Prior to a certification meeting, the board checks to be sure each political hopeful has correctly filled out his or her petition and has the minimum number of valid signatures required to run.

If all who filed are certified, the Republican contenders for Hackett’s com-missioner seat will be Michael K. Boerger of Mechanicsburg, John J. Stahl of London, Mark A. Forrest of West Jefferson, Charlie M. Miller of West Jefferson, and Jim Moran of London.

Thomas Buscemi of West Jefferson filed as a Democrat. The new term will begin on Jan. 2, 2009.

Republican Chris R. Snyder of West Jefferson filed to run for re-election to the county commissioner’s term that will begin on Jan. 3, 2009. No other candidates filed for this seat.

The only other contested county race for the March primary election is for judge of the Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations, Juvenile and Probate Division. The two Republican candidates are Glenn S. Hamilton of London and R. David Picken of South Solon.

Republican voters also will have a choice in the primary when it comes to the 84th District State Representative race. Craig W. Saunders of Yellow Springs and Robert O. Hackett of London are vying for the nomination. Connie Crockett of Yellow Springs is the only Democratic candidate to file for the seat.

The rest of the races slated for the primary election are uncontested. They are as follows:

• Madison County Clerk of Courts—Republican Marie Parks of London

• Madison County Coroner—Republican James W. Kaehr of London

• Madison County Prosecutor—Republican Stephen J. Pronai of London

• Madison County Engineer—Republican David P. Brand of London

• Madison County Recorder—Republican Charles E. Reed of Plain City

• Madison County Sheriff—Republican James P. Sabin of London

• Madison County Treasurer—Republican William M. Stidham of London.
