Try something different for lunch and help the library at the same time.

The Friends of Mount Sterling Public Library will host their third annual Victorian tea luncheon from 1 to 3 p.m. March 22 in the fellowship hall at Mount Sterling First United Methodist Church, 110 S. London St.

“It’s a high afternoon tea with tea, sweets and savories (finger sandwiches) served on real China dishes,” said Casey O’Neill, Friends secretary.

Tickets are $7.50 and can be purchased at the library in advance or at the church the day of the event.

Friends members will be dressed in Victorian-inspired clothing and act as servers. Guests are welcome to dress the part, too, either in their own attire or by borrowing items from a garment rack and selection of hats provided by the Friends at the tea.

Door prizes will be awarded for contest categories ranging from best Victorian costume to furthest distance traveled to attend. Centerpieces featuring silk flower arrangements in teacups will be available for purchase at the end of the tea.

“We’re hoping for 40 people or more,” O’Neill said.

Proceeds will go toward library programs and supplies. Recently, Friends funds paid for new chairs for the computer desks, additions to the book collection, gas for the bookmobile, and expenses associated with the library’s centennial celebration.

The Friends hold several fundraisers a year. Next up is the annual spaghetti dinner, set for 5 to 7 p.m. April 25 at Mount Sterling Nazarene Church. The group also is looking into hosting a mystery dinner party in August.

The Friends of Mount Sterling Public Library is always open to new members. The group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the library community room. In addition to O’Neill, officers are president Linda Clemans and treasurer Bev Bobo.

Mount Sterling Public Library is located at 60 W. Columbus St. For more information, call (740) 869-2430.
