The 3rd Annual London Marathon, Half Marathon, & 5K is just over three months away, and more than 150 runners have already signed up.

“Registration is way ahead of where it’s ever been… I anticipate at least 300 (by race day) based on how things usually play out,” said David Mars, event organizer and London resident.

Race day is April 15. The marathon and half marathon start at 7 a.m. The 5K takes off at 7:15. All three races start and finish at Merri Mac Park.

Those who are already registered have benefited from early sign-up discounts. The next price increase comes on March 1. Currently, the entry fees are $90 for the marathon, $75 for the half marathon, and $35 for the 5K. All finishers receive a medal and swag bag featuring promotions from local businesses. Marathoners get a full-zip, lightweight, hooded sweatshirt. Half marathoners and 5K runners get a t-shirt.

Mars said he hopes to see a nice mix of local and out-of-town runners participate. In the first year of the event, he promoted the race heavily outside of Madison County. The idea, he said, was to bring in outside dollars and thereby lessen the burden on local resources. Now, he’s hoping to see lots of local faces, too.

“We would love to see more Madison County people in the race at whatever distance,” he said.

The course is flat and, therefore, fast, making it a great race to achieve a personal best time, according to Mars. Because the course is USA Track & Field certified, it’s also a great race to achieve an official qualifying time for the Boston Marathon. The majority of the course is on the rails-to-trails path.

Race day will be much the same as it has been in the past. Plenty of features will play off the London, Ohio vs. London, England theme established the first year. One feature organizers hope to enhance this year is the atmosphere at the finish line.

“We want to bring more energy to our finish line experience,” Mars said.
To that end, they are setting up a double-decker bus prop near the finish line tent. Other ideas are in the works.

Also new this year, the race is part of the 2023 RUNColumbus Race Series. Participants earn points for participating in races in the series. London’s event is the only listing that includes a marathon and half marathon. The 5K qualifies, too, for points. Visit, for more information about the series.

Since its inception, the London Marathon, Half Marathon, & 5K has donated its proceeds to Merri Mac Park Miracle, a non-profit organization working to bring improvements to the park. Last year, a new playground was installed. This year, the focus is on refurbishing the existing ball fields at the park.
