The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a Junior Deputy Academy June 26-30, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., for students in grades 4-6. The cost is $50 per child. Each child must have a teacher recommendation and complete an essay with the application to be considered for the academy.
The academy covers the following topics: police communications, patrol officer, police tactics, K-9 demonstration, gun safety, crime scene investigations, jail procedures, police driving, evidence collection, and bullying.
Applications, teacher recommendations, and essays must be submitted by May 12 to the Sheriff’s Office, 23 W. High St. (beside the courthouse in London) or mailed to P.O. Box 558, London, OH 43140. Those who are notified of acceptance into the academy must pay their fee prior to the academy’s start date.
The academy is limited to 45 students. Acceptance will be judged by the applicant’s essay.
