Shekinah Fest set for Sept. 13

The 29th annual Shekinah Festival and Auction is set for Sept. 12-13. The weekend begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a concert featuring the praise and worship bands from Agape Community Fellowship of Hilliard and Vineyard Church of Columbus. Admission is free.

On Saturday, the fun begins at sunrise with a hot air balloon lift-off. Rides are available, weather permitting; call 614-873-8670 for reservations.

A kiddie pedal pull will start at 1 p.m. Children can enjoy a petting zoo, hay rides, pony rides, face painting, a barrel train and crafts all day long.

The auction will feature collectibles, furniture and crafts at 10 a.m., in-home meal tickets at noon, and hand-quilted quilts at 1 p.m. For a full list of auction items, go to www.shekinahchristianschool.com.

Pancakes, sausage, coffee and doughnuts will be served at 7 a.m. Trail bologna, cheese, pizza, sandwiches and taco salads will be available at 10 a.m. A chicken barbecue starts at 10:30.

Booths will open at 8:30 a.m. and feature: homemade specialty bread, jam and noodles, the Shekinah Country Store (wood and sewing crafts), apple butter and cider, homemade ice cream, apple dumplings, fruit and produce, popcorn and soft drinks, baked goods, funnel cakes, the Sweete Shoppe, and the Cookie Jar.

Proceeds from the festival benefit the students and needs of Shekinah Christian School. Shekinah offers grades K-12 and is supported by Mennonite churches in the Plain City area. Students who attend are from various denominational backgrounds.

More than 250 people donate their time and talents to the Shekinah Festival, “The Biggest Little Festival in Ohio.”
