They are ready to show you a Thing or two.
In the world of Dr. Seuss, people have come to expect the unexpected.
Surprises are in store as West Jefferson High School prepares for this year’s musical, “Seussical.”
In addition to the regular performances of the show, students will present a Green Eggs & Ham Breakfast with the characters on March 23 and a dinner theatre experience on opening night on March 28.
First is the fun-filled character breakfast.
“The last time we held a breakfast with characters (for ‘Beauty and the Beast’), it was a hit with the community,” said director Rachel Armas. “The other directors and I think this is a great opportunity to connect with families, let them meet their favorite Dr. Seuss characters, and take pictures. And who doesn’t want to try some real Green Eggs and Ham?”
The event also serves as a fundraiser to offset production costs.
The breakfast will run from 9 to 11 a.m. March 23 in the West Jefferson High School auditeria. Tickets are available at the door for $6 for children 12 and younger and $8 for anyone 13 and older, with a $30 maximum for families.
Visitors get to meet and eat with the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz and many other Dr. Seuss characters.
In addition to green eggs and ham, the menu includes whimsical, colorful pancakes. Also planned are face-painting, Thing 1 & 2 cutouts, and a chance to take pictures with the characters.
Second is dinner and a show, without having to leave the venue.
“I am so excited, as always, to partner with Ann & Tony’s (restaurant)for this event,” Armas said. “Tom and Judy (Buscemi) have been huge supporters of the music program at West Jeff high school and middle school through the years. We are so grateful for their generosity and delicious food.”
The dinner theater experience will begin at 6 p.m. March 28 with the show to follow. The three-course meal includes a choice of chicken parmesan, lasagna or a vegetarian option. A dairy- and gluten-free option is available, as well. The entrée selection needs to be made when ordering tickets.
The dinner-musical package is just $25 per person. These tickets are pre-sale only. According to Armas, tickets are going fast. Reservations may be made and paid for at the high school office. Payment is accepted in cash or check made out to the West Jefferson Music Boosters.
“Neither of these events could take place without the West Jefferson Music Boosters and a team of hardworking, creative parent volunteers,” Armas said. “The incredible parents of our students have been working hard to make both of these events high quality and memorable.”
Other performances of “Seussical’ will are set for March 29 at 7 p.m. and March 30 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Show tickets are $5 for students, $10 for adults, and $15 for VIP seating with prime view. To order tickets, call (614) 879-7681, ext. 2300, or email westjeffdrama@gmail.com. Tickets also will be available at the door.
