September at Darby Metro Park

The following are events scheduled for Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park during the month of September.

Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park is located at 1775 Darby Creek Dr., Galloway, in southwestern Franklin County. From I-270, take I-70 west to the Hilliard/Rome exit (91a), go toward New Rome and travel south to West Broad Street. Turn right onto Broad Street and travel approximately 4 miles to Darby Creek Drive. Turn left onto Darby Creek Drive and proceed 3 miles. The main park entrance is on the right. The entrance to the Indian Ridge Picnic Area is 1 mile south of the main entrance on the right.

•Creek Critters Display, Sept. 1, 1–4 p.m. – Stop by to see live critters such as fish, mussels, insects, reptiles and amphibians native to the Darby Watershed. Meet at naturalist office.

•Mussel Mania, Sept. 6, 1–3 p.m. – Wade in the creek to locate its buried treasures, the Darby mussels. Meet at Indian Ridge bulletin board.

•Up the Creek, Sept. 7, 2–4 p.m. – Bring friends and family and enjoy an afternoon of catching critters in Big Darby Creek. Meet at naturalist office.

•Preschoolers: Beauty and the Bees, Sept. 9, 9:30–10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.–noon – Learn through a story, song and a craft what we can do to keep our precious pollinators safe. Meet at Cedar Ridge Lodge.

•Photo Nuts, Sept. 10, 7 p.m. – Bring your favorite pictures to share and enjoy a potluck. All levels of shutterbugs welcome. Meet at Cedar Ridge Lodge

•Monarchy, Sept. 14, 1–3 p.m. – Learn about the monarch’s life cycle and its migration to Mexico. Meet at Naturalist Office.

•Howl at the Moon, Sept. 14, 7:30–9:30 p.m. – Bring your canine companion on a 2-mile hike on the Wagtail Trail. Meet at Pet Trail Parking Lot, 2914 Georgesville-Wrightsville Road.

•Harvest Full Moon Hike, Sept. 15, 7:30–9:30 p.m. – Hike four miles guided by the golden light of the moon. Meet at naturalist office.

Fishing with a Ranger, Sept. 20, 9 a.m.–noon – Enjoy fishing with a park ranger at Osprey Lake. Poles and bait provided. Ages 15 and younger Meet at Osprey Lake, 5800 Harrisburg-Georgesville Road.

•Yoga in the Park, Sept. 20, 10 a.m.–noon – Move with the rhythm of nature and learn yoga techniques to rejuvenate your mind and body from an instructor. Bring a mat or blanket. Meet at naturalist office

•Preschoolers: Beauty and the Bees, Sept. 26, 11 a.m.–noon and 1–2 p.m. – Learn through a story, song and a craft what we can do to keep our precious pollinators safe. Meet at Cedar Ridge Lodge.

•Lions, Tigers and Bears, Sept. 27, 1–3 p.m. – Join the naturalist on a short hike as we look for wooly bears, tiger beetles, antlions and other insects. Meet at naturalist office

•Commit to be Fit Healthy Hike, Sept. 28, 1 p.m. – Enjoy a leisurely 2-mile walk with park rangers. Meet at naturalist office.
