On March 22, the Madison County Major Crimes Task Force, along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Special Investigation Unit, executed search warrants at two London locations, resulting in two arrests.
Investigators obtained search warrants for an apartment on Lamplight Court and an apartment on Sheffield Boulevard as a result of ongoing drug investigations.
At the Lamplight Court location, investigators recovered significant amounts of suspected cocaine, marijuana and U.S. currency. At the Sheffield Boulevard location, they recovered a handgun, small amounts of narcotics, and related instruments.
Stevin J. Howard, 33, of London was charged with a felony count of possession of drugs. Dwaine M. Garrett, 33, of London was charged with the third-degree felony of weapons under disability which means he is not lawfully allowed to own a gun due to prior offenses. Investigators may pursue further charges pending lab analysis.
“The teams executed both locations very well. There were no reported injuries. We were able to safely get the two into custody,” said Madison County Sheriff John Swaney.
The Madison County Major Crimes Task Force consists of representatives from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and London Police Department. Both agencies work closely with the Franklin County Drug Task Force.
Swaney and London Police Chief Glenn Nicol encourage community members to share information and tips about suspected criminal activity.
“We can’t be everywhere. If anyone sees any kind of suspicious activity or thinks something is going on, we ask that they contact us to report it so we can check it out,” Swaney said.
In a social media post following the searches, the Sheriff’s
Office stated: “While the investigations may take time, community involvement is paramount to successfully combating crime, especially drug trafficking.”
