Temperatures in the 80s and no rain. What could be better to kick off pool season?
The South Charleston Pool opened for the summer on May 30. The main improvement since last season is a fresh coat of paint on the main pool. The pool board provided the paint. The Pride Committee from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office provided free labor, a $3,000 cost savings.
“This has been a task that has been needed to be completed for a couple of years. The new paint makes the pool look very nice,” said Wendy Russell, president.
Soon to be finished is a resurfacing and new paint for the baby pool.
New this year are evening swim lessons, set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 13-17. Daytime lessons are set for 10 to 11:30 a.m. July 5-9 and July 11-15. The cost is $25 for pool members and $30 for non-members.
“We had a lot of working parents ask us to do evening lessons, so this year we’re going to try it and see how it goes,” said Dawn Cooper, board member.
Among special events on the calendar are the Kids Club pool party, slated for July 14 and sponsored by the South Charleston Police Department. Children of all ages are invited to swim for free the whole day. Admission is one non-perishable food item per person. Food and games are planned. For details, contact Jenny Hartman, Kids Club vice president, at (937) 605-4343. Additionally, the pool board will hold its annual Big Splash 5K Run fundraiser on Aug. 6.
Through June 5, pool memberships are $99 for the first family member and $25 for each additional member. The rate increases to $120/$25 after June 5. Daily admission is $5; a 10-visit punch card is $40.
The pool board, a non-profit organization, relies on memberships, daily admissions, grants and donations to operate. To make a donation, send checks to “South Charleston Pool” or “CRC,” P.O. Box 90, South Charleston, OH 45368. Donations are tax deductible.
The pool board is looking for a few individuals to serve as substitute lifeguards. Applicants must be Red Cross certified.
The pool is located at 208 E. Columbus Road. Hours are noon-7 p.m. every day. For more information, look for “South Charleston Pool” on Facebook or email wendymrussell@yahoo.com.
