The following are among the pets up for adoption at the Humane Society of Madison County.

Scooby

Scooby
Scooby has arrived at the shelter. No, he isn’;t a Great Dane like the cartoon character, but this snausage sure is cute. He is approximately 1.5 years old and weighs in at 65 pounds. (He needs to cut back on the treats, to be totally honest.) Shelter staff believe he is a black mouth cur/hound mix.

He is a little anxious at the shelter but has come to fit in well, doing very well with his dog-friendly testing. He would prefer to avoid dogs who are rude. He could do well with cats, too, with slow introductions.

Scooby keeps his kennel clean, even over night. With a knowledgeable owner who has some patience and who will let Scooby decompress the first week or so in their home, this boy will be a fantastic, loyal family dog.

Adoption fees for dogs vary: shelter dogs are $180, prison dogs are $250, puppies are $300, and popular pure-breeds are $400. The price includes: a Home Again microchip, set of shots, deworming, heartworm testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). All dogs adopted must leave with a county license at an additional cost of $17; this fee is cash only. Adoption fees can be paid by cash or credit card.

Lucy

Lucy
Meet the beautiful Lucy. This gorgeous lady has an estimated birthdate of Dec. 20, 2015, and is such a lovebug. She may look a little crabby at times, but it’s just her natural look. And did you see those beautiful baby blues? She purrs up a storm and loves nothing more than to be snuggled up on a warm lap or cozy couch.

She is a quiet girl and never make a fuss. She would do really well in a quieter home but could likely acclimate to a busier home. With proper introductions to other kitties, dogs, and children, she would do just fine.

The adoption fee is $100 for kittens up to 6 months old and $80 for cats 7 months and older. It includes: a FeLV/FIV test (if old enough), spay or neuter, set of shots, deworming, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). Fees can be paid by cash or credit card.
